The Rite of Christian Initiaion of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA is a liturgical process of initiation into the Catholic church and sacramental life for people who have never been baptized or those who have been baptized in another Christian tradition. RCIA is a year round process of initiation and we welcome new inquirers to the process anytime of the year. RCIA is for any person over the age of seven.
Following Vatican II, the church has been called to welcome new members through this process of evangelization, community involvement, catechesis, and formation of mission that culminates in the celebration of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
The entire parish family is responsible for welcoming new members through their involvement in this process by sponsoring Catechumens or Candidates, prayerfully supporting their catechesis and walking with them on their spiritual journey.
The RCIA team at Saint John the Baptist Parish welcomes volunteers to help on the team, or to be a sponsor to someone interested in joining the church.
RCIA is ongoing throughout the year and interested persons may join us at any time. For more information please contact Martha Happ, 801-984-7106.

Mystogogia
"Now that we have celebrated the Sacred Triduum our lives are returning to their normal paces. Well not exactly. With the Easter celebration of the Paschal Mysteries hopefully there has been a transformation in all of our lives. This metanoia period or period of ongoing conversion should exemplify our lives as something radically transfromed through Christ Jesus. Traditionally, this period is called the mystagogia, a deepening of our understandings, in the mysteries of our faith. For the newly initiated into the faith, this period is the final stage for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults." ...

Pope John Paul II has written that "Catechesis runs the risk of becoming barren if no community of faith and Christian life takes the catechmen in at a certain state of his catechesis." We as a community have the responsibility of welcoming catechumens and candidates into our environment where they can live as fully as possible in our Catholic community. We as a body of Christ must not be passive in our welcoming of catechumens and candidates. During the season of Lent we are called to pray, fast and give alms, just as the newly Elect of God and Candidates are preparing for the Easter Sacraments, we as a community can pray for and deepen our own conversion in the Paschal Mystery together as a parish family.
