Newly cannonized St. Pier Giorgio Frassati was an avid mountaineer and outdoor enthusiast. He famously scribbled on the back of a photograph "Verso L'alto" which is Italian for "To the Heights". It was the last photograph of him climbing. St. Pier believed that climbing mountains was a metaphor for the Christian life. He famously wrote "The higher we go, the better we shall hear the voice of Christ."
There's something so beautiful about being in nature that reminds us who created the beauty around us and that we are a part of that creation. We won't be climbing any mountains, but we will be chasing some waterfalls and experiencing the beauty that surrounds us.
